Wendover, Roger de (DNB00) (Chronica Majora, v. ). Other ecclesiastics bore the name of Wendover about that time, and among them Richard de Wendover, bishop of Rochester, who died in Wendover's book is entitled 'Flores Historiarum,' and the first part of it answers to the name, the contents being largely culled from other. A former prior of Belvoir, Roger of Wendover (d. ) established himself as a chronicler at St Albans. This three-volume work, edited by Henry G. Hewlett () and published between and , comprises the latter part of the larger Flores opus and the part of the Latin text for which Wendover can claim direct responsibility. From the year it is an original and valuable authority, but the whole material has been worked over and in a sense re-edited with editions by Matthew Paris (q.v.) in his "Chronica Majora". Wendover is less prejudiced than Paris, but he is also less picturesque, and whereas Paris in his generalizations and inferences as to the causes of.
